Gotham 360 Attends An Earth Day Fair At Stevens Institute Of Technology To Educate Students On The College's Ongoing Sustainability Initiatives
The Stevens Environmental Club (S.A.V.E.), the Entertainment Committee, Engineers for a Sustainable World, and the Student Faculty Alliance hosted an Earth Day Fair on April 26th as part of an entire week of Earth-related events, which included a beach clean up, sustainability panel discussion, and solar car build.

A number of organizations attended including Waste Management, Rotaract, Citizens Climate Lobby, and the Gotham 360 team who were there on behalf of the Stevens Sustainability Committee. During the event, students were invited to participate in a potted plant demonstration through Steven Urban Agriculture and Amnesty International, admire recycled jewelry and plastic bag yarn, and receive crank flashlight handouts. As an event participant, Gotham 360 ran student raffles and competitions in an effort to highlight one of Stevens' major sustainability initiatives: the continued installation of water bottle refill stations throughout campus. The stations, which encourage reusable water bottle usage with easy filling, are equipped with a visible running meter display which counts how many single-use, plastic water bottles have been avoided with the use of that particular station.

Students were asked to guess how many plastic water bottles had been avoided across campus since the instillation of the first refill station. Out of 50 students, the three students who guessed closest to the answer at the time of the competition (287,369 bottles) won a red S'well water bottle.

The campus wide event also gave Gotham 360 the opportunity to speak with students directly about the number of impactful sustainability initiatives that the Stevens Sustainability Committee, in collaboration with Gotham 360, is working on. The team shared information about Stevens' eight Combined Heat and Power (CHP) units, multiple solar arrays, solar trash compactors, and future electric vehicle charging stations.

"While some projects are more visible to the general student body than others, it's great to get the opportunity to chat about all that is going on and seeing how many Stevens students are looking to engage with sustainability on their campus," said Christine Pries of Gotham 360.
